¿Qué pasó luego de la cárcel?
Bueno, a mí me sacaron directamente
de la cárcel a un avión de la fuerza área de USA. Yo fui deportado de mi país. Yo les propuse
a mis carceleros que me dejaran libre dentro de Cuba, pero ellos me dijeron que esa no era una opción: o me iba del
país o seguía preso. Tampoco me dejaron visitar mi barrio antes de irme. En el aeropuerto me entregaron al entonces
congresista americano Bill Richardson (hoy gobernador de Nuevo Méjico y excandidato presidencial), quien había
sido enviado por el presidente americano Bill Clinton para negociar con Castro en La Habana.

Yo estoy muy agradecido
con el país que me recibió y del cual soy ahora ciudadano. La Academia de Ciencias de USA
y en especial mi tutor en los estudios de postgrado, el doctor Henryk Temkin, me ayudaron a reincorporarme a la ciencia. En
el 2000 obtuve el Ph.D. en ingienería eléctrica en Texas Tech University.

What happened
after jail?
Well, I was translated directly from the cell to an airplane of the USA air forces. I was deported
from my motherland. I proposed to my jailers to be released inside Cuba but they refused. The only options were to continue
in jail or to go free to USA. I was not allowed to visit my neighborhood before leaving my country. In the airport, I was
handed to Congressman Bill Richardson (today, he is the governor of New Mexico and ex-candidate to the presidency of USA).
Richardson had been sent by the president of USA, Bill Clinton, to Havana for negotiations with Castro.

I am grateful with the country that received me. I am now a proud
citizen of this wonderful country. The Academy of Sciences of USA and especially my advisor in the postgraduate studies, Dr.
Henryk Temkin, helped me to return to science. In 2000, I obtained the Ph. D. in electrical engineering at Texas Tech University.
